Travel Guide
We would love nothing more than for our wedding to be your excuse to eat / explore your way through the best capital city in the Americas! We can’t wait to celebrate with you, and would love to see you throughout the weekend! Below you’ll find below our favorite eats and activities in the City. We would be happy to make other recommendations as well.
Our favorite spots have been added to a Google Maps List where you can see all our suggestions in one place, save it to your phone for off-data access, and save what you tried and enjoyed.
Travel Tips
- Due to old pipes in the City, water is not drinkable – we suggest you drink bottled water. To reduce the risk of stomach issues, you may choose to eat primarily fruit/vegetables that can be peeled, eat street food at places that are highly trafficked
- México City has a lot of historic trees and uneven streets and is a walking city; you should consider bringing sneakers
- Like any major city, to manage traffic and maximize your experience consider clustering your activities within neighborhoods
- Our favorite neighborhoods (Condesa, Roma Norte / Sur, Polanco, Cuauhtémoc, Coyoacán) we find to be safe and enjoyable. Like any major city, be aware and don’t carry valuables if you don’t need to
- Not all phone plans will work, you should consider arranging for a data plan through own carrier or through eSIM (for the latter, going rate is $5/GB which is usually good for a short trip)
- We suggest you download Uber (our preferred mode of transport) and Google Translate before arriving
Activities | These are our favorite ways to spend our time in CDMX
- Bosque de Chapultepec, including Chapultepec Castle and Museo National de Antropologia
- Frida Khalo Museum + walk around Coyoacan neighborhood
- Frida & Diego Studios + San Angel Inn for classic mexican meal
- Museum Anahuacalli (Diego Rivera’s private collection)
- Paseo De Reforma by Bike (Paseo is closed to traffic & open to bikes Sunday 8a-2p)
Eats | CDMX is a diverse mega city – a melting pot of the unique cultures and cuisines of its Mexican, Central American, and immigrant populations from across the globe. These are our favorite foods we recommend you try!
- Cafe De Olla – Coffee with orange and spices
- Chilaquiles – breakfast dish with sauce smothered tortilla chips & fried eggs
- Al Pastor tacos – most popular street food – pork roasted on a spit and served shaved with pineapple
- Churros – pick a place with a line where you know you’ll get one freshly fried and dusted with cinnamon sugar (my favorite is Churrería El Moro)
- Nieves – frozen ices (a lighter sorbet) in every fruit flavor
